This is my self portrait because I am a brother of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. I take pride in being involved with such a meaningful organization. We were founded on the principles of Love, Truth, and Honor. This artwork describes me in a nutshell.

Slide Show Of Favorite Art

These pieces of art are very interesting to me. Two of give me an old school calm feeling. the other to give me a more up to date kind of moving feeling. These paintings really do bring out different types of emotions.

This is a poetry jam I found on you tube. This is a very meaningful poetry slam. It reminds me of the type of rap that Tupac would come up with. I can really tell she is a motivated person who is dedicated to her poetry skills. This is a gifted type of artwork that many people aren't bleesed with.

Dance

This is a video of the macarena. I believe this is art because it is just a fun dance to express yourself while doing. I remember having to do this at a dance night in the fifth grade. At first I was reluctant to do it but once we got started it was a blast. This dance is a true work of art in my eyes.

This is a video of a guy speed painting Elvis Presley on Black velvet with cheetos. This is another skill that I don't know what makes people do it but it really is a cool process. This finishing picture is truly impressive.

This is a video of a person speed painting Betty Davis with mascara. I don't understand how someone learns how to paint with mascara but this is a truly amazing video.

Architecture

This is one of the most interesting pieces of architecture I have ever seen in my entire life. The shapes and angles of these buildings is just completely off the wall, literally, not something you would expect to see on a building. Clearly this architecture is one amazing piece of art.

Human Behavior

This type of art work is clearly representing someones quirky human behavior. Artwork can be used in many ways to describe someones human behavior. Human behavior is plainly how someone acts at a certain point in time and they can use art to express themselves.

Graffiti Beat

This piece of graffiti covers the entire building. This is surely one huge piece of artwork. In my opinion all graffiti is artwork. These people put time and dedication in expressing their talents. This piece of work was obviously done by someone with some real professional talent. It is truly a work of art.

Free Post Catharsis

Dave Mathew's song "Ants Marching" is written about one of his concerts at HiFiBis amphitheatre in Atl. He said that when he plays in Atlanta, there is just a ridiculous amount of people crowded in, which he refers to the people as ants. One line says "Driving in on this highway, all these cars parked on the sidewalk, people in every direction, all the little ants are marching." I love this song because I have been part of the Atlanta crowd going to see his concert. this song really hits home for me.

artist i know

I know an artist named Richard Brownley. He draws very intense trippy pictures. They look like images you would see back in the 70s with bright colors with steady movement involved. He has been drawing now for about 15 years. He commented that he just started out doodling in class and the more he worked at it the better his works became. It's truly amazing to me when I looked at his work, just thinking about the time and effort he dedicates to his work. Rich is definitely a great artist that I know.

Catharsis 2

In this catharsis I'm using the song "The Good Life" by Corey Smith. One line says " Our dad never tried to spoil us kept our hands in the sawdust, yea we chipped in whenever we could, we shared through the sweat, blood, and the tears... Naw we aint got a lot but we've earned what we got, and we couldn't do it much better than that." This just really hits home for me because growing up in a big family we never had a whole lot of money to work with, but we always helped out and worked together to get what we could. This makes you appreciate what you do have in your life and makes you grow up and become a more responsible man at an early age and i wouldn't change if for anything. It's a good life!

Cathersis 1

My catharsis is using the Dave Mathews Band song "Grace is Gone". It is a song written about losing a girl who he truly loved. One line states "I could never love again as much as I loved you, where you end and I begin is like a river flowing through," meaning I gave you all the love that I had and we were perfect for each other. Then it goes on to say "She broke my hear my grace is gone, one more drink and I'll move on, one more drink and I'll be gone." This song is written out of a heartbreak and ive experienced this once in my life, and it truly is a difficult situation to overcome. This song sums up exactly how I felt when I experienced my first heartbreak.

Human Condition

Human condition is basically the state of mind and overall well-being of someone. There are many examples to the human condition such as depression, cheerful, etc. Art has been known to help people and express exactly what their state of mind is at a certain point in time. This peice of artwork I have chosen looks exactly like something a person in a sad state of depression would create. The dark colors used just makes the woman so feeble and helpless, which could be how this particular artist feels.

Human Struggle

Human struggle is a concept that everyone in life eventually experieces. Sometimes art is used to represent how a person is feeling during their time of struggle. This picture shows a woman who obviously looks depressed. Art can help someone in these situation by cheering them up or just use the art as a coping mechanism to let one's feelings out.

Fashion art

Fashion has been used as an art form for decades. People express themselves by the clothes they wear. This picture here is clearly an example of fashion as art. We've all seen the paintings like this dress. they have just taken the design from those pictures and replicated it onto clothing. She is clearly making a statement that she doesn't mind being noticed by people. Many people take on this social participation of fashion as art.

Music Video

Blind Melon's video to their song "No Rain" is a quirky work of art. The video consists of a girl in a bee costume saddened by the fact that she can't find people to enjoy her dancing. She finally finds a field full of other people in bee outfits. She then dances happily with the other bees. the little girl expresses her feelings through the costume and her dances. Although this isn't tangible artwork, it really is a form of artwork because of the way she expresses herself.

Culture

This picture is an artwork that reflects our culture in the U.S. Although it is not from this time period, it clearly shows aspects of U.S. culture and activities. It shows the cars and the style people in our country have. It has buildings from New York in the background which is obviously a recognizable aspect involved in our culture. It also shows the Hollywood Hills which is another aspect in our country. This artwork has many details that are part of our culture.

Human Nature

Art can be involved in many human aspects. Human nature is no different. the natural way for people to act according to different situations can be expressed through art. I chose this particular picture because this man is just being himself. He looks like a hard working farmer who is expressing part of his everyday life with this blank stare on his face. It is a beautiful picture showing stress on his blue eyes and blue clothes. This expresses his everyday human nature.

Right Brain Left Brain

My left brain, as is everyone else's, is the very conservative part. I use my left brain probably 75% of a normal day. I enjoy being told exactly what needs to be done instead of using my creativity to get the job done. This class is definitely bringing my right brain out to get some excercise. It is good to get that imagination and creativeness out and make some decisions. The right is definitely my rebellious and more fun side and I hope that taking this class will bring it out more even after the class is over.

Favorite Artist

Dave Mathews is my favorite artist. He writes and sings his own songs. The songs he writes come from his personal life experiences. He ranges from heartbreaks to just having a good time and enjoying life. The way he takes real circumstances and turns them into songs which last forever is truly amazing to me. His lyrics are just so deep and so true that i just cant help but enjoy his work. In my opinion, he truly is one of the best musical artists around today.

Movie

Braveheart is definitely a work of art because it displays expression of the warriors fighting for their freedom. William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, starts a war over his country's freedom. This movie shows how life for the Scotsman was in that time. It represents how they were willinig to fight for what they believed in. Artists do this in a way in that they express their feelings and emotions through their work. This movie truly is a work of art.
